The Ardtornish Estate is in the south-west corner of the beautiful peninsula of Morvern, which forms the extreme south-western point of the Highland Region. The estate covers approximately 60 square miles of hills, woodland, rivers and lochs with a 20 mile coastline on the Sound of Mull and Loch Linnhe. The centre of the estate lies at the head of Loch Aline, a sea loch into which flow the rivers Rannoch and Aline, draining Loch Tearnait, Loch Arienas and the upland glens.

Stalking
Stalking for Red deer stags (one rifle) on Ardtornish is available from mid August to the 20th October each season.
Ardtornish covers approximately 15,000 hectare (35,000 acres) at the South of the Morvern peninsula in North Argyll. It is estimated that there are 400 stags and 600 hinds on the property. For stalking the Estate will provide the services of a stalker and a Landrover, plus hill ponies or Argo for recovery.
The Estate will normally retain the carcass and the trophies - the limit is one stag per day. It is Estate policy not to shoot stags with good heads and tenants are encouraged to take poor heads or old stags. In a weeks stalking of six days, it would be reasonable to expect to kill five stags per week in September and six stags per week in October, but tenants must realise that poor weather could lead to a disappointing week.
The preferred accommodation for stalking parties is the fully furnished "South Wing" of Ardtornish house, which can sleep 11, but other self catering properties may also be made available if preferred. (We offer six days stalking with the South Wing but only five days with other properties. South Wing Sunday - Sunday, Other properties Saturday - Saturday lets.)
If asked the Stalker will prepare these for you at cost of £25 per trophy.
Venison
If the tenant wishes to retain the venison, he may purchase the whole carcass at the current game dealers price.
Salmon and sea trout fishing
Salmon and sea trout fishing permits are available on the River Aline, Loch Arienas and Loch Doire nam Mart. Loch Tearnait and other hill lochs yield indigenous brown trout. Fly fishing from the banks of these lochs is included in the rent. Salmon and sea trout fishing and the hire of boats and outboard motors should be booked well in advance. For those wishing to bring their own boats launching facilities and safe moorings are available.
In 2001, nineteen salmon were caught at Ardtornish, this compares with 30 in 2000, however, in 1999 only 4 wild salmon and 4 escapees were landed. Sea-Trout numbers for 2001 were in the region of 70. Until about five years ago 400 was not an uncommon number.
Ardtornish has wild brown trout fishing over 16 hill lochs on the estate which have been very good in both quantity and quality of fish caught. A new record Brown Trout at 10lbs was caught in 2001, this compares with the previous record "Brownie" 8lb 4oz caught in 2000. The record for 1999 was 7lbs (Two fish at this weight) and the largest in 1998 5lb 4ozs. - Can they get bigger?
